Al-Fajr

الفجر

أعوذُ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in you from the accursed Satan
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
I start with the name of ALLAH, very beneficient and merciful.
وَٱلْفَجْرِ

۝

89:1

By the dawn

Tafseer
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍۢ

۝

89:2

And [by] ten nights1 Footnote - 1 Usually interpreted as the first ten nights of the month of Dhul-Ḥijjah.

Tafseer
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ

۝

89:3

And [by] the even [number] and the odd

Tafseer
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

۝

89:4

And [by] the night when it passes,

Tafseer
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌۭ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ

۝

89:5

Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?1 Footnote - 1 Based upon the following verses, what has been sworn to by Allāh is that He will certainly punish the disbelievers.

Tafseer
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

۝

89:6

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ʿAad -

Tafseer
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ

۝

89:7

[With] Iram1 - who had lofty pillars,2 Footnote - 1 Another name for the first people of ʿAad, to whom Prophet Hūd was sent. Footnote - 2 Supporting their tents or buildings.

Tafseer
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

۝

89:8

The likes of whom had never been created in the land?

Tafseer
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ

۝

89:9

And [with] Thamūd, who carved out the rocks in the valley?

Tafseer
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ

۝

89:10

And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes?1 Footnote - 1 By which he tortured people.

Tafseer
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

۝

89:11

[All of] whom oppressed within the lands

Tafseer
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ

۝

89:12

And increased therein the corruption.

Tafseer
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

۝

89:13

So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

Tafseer
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ

۝

89:14

Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

Tafseer
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ

۝

89:15

And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."1 Footnote - 1 He is proud rather than grateful, attributing the favor to his own merit.

Tafseer
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ

۝

89:16

But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."

Tafseer
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ

۝

89:17

No!1 But you do not honor the orphan Footnote - 1 It is not like you imagine. Rather, Allāh tries people through prosperity and hardship and rewards both gratitude and patience with honor in the Hereafter.

Tafseer
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ

۝

89:18

And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

Tafseer
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًۭا لَّمًّۭا

۝

89:19

And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,1 Footnote - 1 Not caring whether it is lawful or unlawful.

Tafseer
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّۭا جَمًّۭا

۝

89:20

And you love wealth with immense love.

Tafseer
كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّۭا دَكًّۭا

۝

89:21

No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed

Tafseer
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّۭا صَفًّۭا

۝

89:22

And your Lord has come1 and the angels, rank upon rank, Footnote - 1 To pass judgement. See footnote to 2:19

Tafseer
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ

۝

89:23

And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?

Tafseer
يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى

۝

89:24

He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."1 Footnote - 1 The everlasting life of the Hereaft

Tafseer
فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ

۝

89:25

So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,

Tafseer
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ

۝

89:26

And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].

Tafseer
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ

۝

89:27

[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,

Tafseer
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةًۭ مَّرْضِيَّةًۭ

۝

89:28

Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

Tafseer
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى

۝

89:29

And enter among My [righteous] servants

Tafseer
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى

۝

89:30

And enter My Paradise."
